Tips To Paint Like A Pro

Painting seems simple enough, maybe exterior could be a problem as there is the weather and there are stairs etc. But when it comes to the interior, all you need is a roller, some paint, something to cover your floor and you’re golden. Dip the roller in the paint and just go crazy.  Right?
No. if you’ve ever actually painted your interior or anything for that matter. You’ll know that’s not the case at all. Painting requires care and planning. And there’s a high risk of you completely ruining everything just by being a little careless, from small drips on your floor and furniture to a completely uneven finish on your walls.
Hiring a professional is always the best option. Look for interior painting companies around you and choose one that suits you best. But if you plan on doing this yourself. Make sure you know what you’re getting into.
Here are a few tips we think will make your next painting project successful.

1.      Avoiding Roller Lap Marks

Lap marks happen when you paint over a part of the wall that was already painted and the paint was partly dry. Which is common if your living in an area that’s dry and warm. To avoid this, you need to make sure that when your overlapping paint, it’s not dry. One way to do this by maintaining a “wet edge”. Make sure that you reload the roller often. Paint the full height of the wall in one go and move slightly with each stroke.

2.      Paint Consistency; Box Your Paint

The next thing is to make sure that your paint stays consistent. There is this technique used by professionals and is called boxing. Boxing is simply mixing your paint cans. Paint isn’t always the same color. Even if they are labeled the same color and even if they are from the same company, there is still a chance that the paint’s shade might be ever so slightly different. To avoid this, professionals use this technique and pour all their paint in a big container and mix it thoroughly.

3.      Making Your Edges Cleaner

Even professionals can’t do a perfect job when it comes to edges. Now you might think you know the trick. USE TAPE! Well yes… but still, there are a few things that you still need to keep in mind. First, make sure that you use good quality painting tape for the job. You might feel like saving a few pennies by going for masking tape or something like that. Don’t. make sure you get the top-quality painting tape as it’s not even expensive and is specially made for painting jobs. Even the professionals and local house painters who are experts in this craft, use painter’s tape and don’t cheap out.
Then when you’ve applied the tape and are done with the painting. Wait for paint to dry, and when it's dry, don’t just pull the tape off as some paint might come with it and ruin your edge. Use a box cutter or knife and cut along the edge as you pull the paint off.

4.      Avoiding Patchy And Uneven Walls

After filling holes and cracks in your walls, there’s a high chance that your walls are uneven. Even if they are not, filled patches might end up absorbing paint differently then the rest of the wall. Making it look more or less shiny and your finished wall will look uneven a patchy. To avoid this, most professionals use a primer. Priming the entire wall makes it more even and saves you from any kind of patches.
